Week two, positions and practice. We meet on Teams (the modern meeting room, no tea and biscuits supplied) to discuss how we present our work etc. Here are my two selected images and my thoughts.

I have chosen to show two images, one from my past work shooting live events and a shot taken after starting the MA.
The mirrors and windows topic really got me thinking about my working practice and how I would see myself, either as a mirror or window photographer.
Initially it was obvious, to me t least, that I was a window photographer, selecting what I chose to have in my frame and as importantly, what I chose to leave out.
Simple, I was a window photographer, or so I thought.
When I thought a little more, I realised that I was both.
I definitely chose what the viewer sees in the window (and what they do not) but it is more than that.
My thoughts, feelings and emotions play a huge part in how I decide to frame the artist.
In the shot shown, I was moved by the connection the singer and guitarist had on stage and, therefore, I wanted to capture this showing their connection as I saw and felt it on the night.
If I had not felt this way, it is more than likely that I would have captured them individually and not together.
When I photograph, for instance, my favourite band, Magnum, I am always conscious of how they will look in the final image. Bob, the vocalist, is now in his 70’s and I want to portray him as I still see him, a young vibrant and incredibly gifted vocalist. My emotions and love for this band are mirrored in how I shoot them and how and what I will allow the viewer to see in my work.
With my past work the presentation has mostly been down to the client as I would typically supply Hi Res Jpegs that they could print or feature online or use for advertising.
I love the printed medium and have had a few exhibitions, most recently at the site of the old Bierkeller in Bristol which is now a music college.
