Topic five

For this topic we had to add a piece of research (not a photograph) that we were interested in pursuing. I chose" Invisible" light, we can only see around 0.005% of the light in the universe. These stress lines are invisible to the naked eye.

I am unsure yet as to the direction my research project will take. My thought process so far is to explore the world of abstract photography using my viewpoint as an Autistic adult with collaboration from other autistic photographers and also a photographer who suffers from mental health issues including high levels of anxiety and imposter syndrome (As do I).

I am also very interested in exploring the most fundamental component of all photography which is light (and its absence).

The word photography comes originally from two Ancient Greek words "Photos" meaning Light and "Graphi" meaning drawing, therefore Drawing with light. (My wife and step-son are from Crete so I had to add this in).

I am fascinated by light and by the fact that we can only see around 0.005% of all light.

The link above takes to too an, I think, interesting 9 minute talk on polarised light and how it is able to reveal stress lines in plastic.

I briefly experimented with the technique discussed, using a polarising filter in place of the suggested sunglasses and found the result incredible.
